Poland detains nine over alleged 337 million-zloty laundering network
Eight Ukrainians and one Belarusian woman were detained in a cross-regional operation. Investigators say the network handled proceeds from online fraud.
Polish authorities have detained nine people suspected of participating in an international network that allegedly laundered 337 million zlotys. The operations took place in Łódź, Warsaw and the Lesser Poland region, with those detained ranging in age from 26 to 53. inPoland.net.pl reported the case on Monday, October 19.
The group comprised five Ukrainian men, three Ukrainian women and a Belarusian woman, according to the report. Investigators identified a 34-year-old Ukrainian as the alleged leader. Four cashiers, three currency-exchange managers and two couriers were among those detained.
Prosecutors believe the money came from BLIK-enabled scams and fraudsters impersonating bank or investment company employees. Couriers used matching banknote serial numbers and telephone codes to deliver cash to selected exchange offices, where transactions allegedly bypassed anti-money-laundering checks. Funds were also deposited into linked accounts, hidden in vehicles for transport abroad, routed through fictitious gold purchases and largely converted into cryptocurrency.
Officers seized computers, phones, data-storage devices, currency and gold worth more than 1 million zlotys. The suspected operation ran in Poland from February 2025 through July 2026. Seven of the nine suspects were placed in custody, and the charges carry a possible prison sentence of up to 15 years.
