Two Ukrainians detained in Poland over alleged 110,000-zloty scam
A 92-year-old woman in Tczew was persuaded to hand over her savings to callers posing as police officers. The suspects are aged 16 and 21.
Polish investigators have detained two Ukrainian nationals suspected of defrauding a 92-year-old Tczew resident of 110,000 zlotys. The pair allegedly impersonated police officers and convinced the woman to surrender all her savings.
The detentions were reported by inPoland.net.pl on Wednesday, October 28. Officers first tracked down the 16-year-old, who was placed in a temporary juvenile detention facility under a court order.
Police also arrested a 21-year-old man, who was charged with fraud and remanded in custody for two months at the prosecutor’s request. Investigators are examining whether the two suspects were involved in a similar case in Krakow in which a victim lost 25,000 zlotys. They have not ruled out further incidents.
Authorities warned that genuine police officers do not ask people to transfer funds or leave cash in a designated hiding place.
