Fire hits Prague home of STV co-owner
Investigators are examining a blaze at the home of Martin Drda, a co-owner of an arms group that supplies ammunition to Ukraine. Damage was estimated at 200,000 Czech crowns.
A fire broke out overnight at the private home of Martin Drda, co-owner of Czech arms concern STV, in Prague’s southeastern Kunratice district. Neighbors noticed the flames at about 11:30 p.m. and alerted firefighters.
Radio Svoboda reported the incident on Wednesday, October 28, citing Czech outlets Novinky and Odkryto. Images published by the media showed fire damage near the garage entrance. Specialists put the loss at 200,000 crowns, or more than $9,100.
Odkryto, citing a source, said Drda was inside with his family when the fire occurred. The available report did not mention any injuries.
Prague police spokesman Richard Hrdina said forensic experts and fire investigators were working to establish whether the cause was a technical fault, an accident or deliberate arson. STV supplies ammunition to Ukraine, while authorities had not announced a conclusion about the origin of the blaze.
