Teenager attacks Israeli embassy guard in Belgrade
A knife-wielding minor wounded a police officer outside Israel’s embassy in Serbia before being shot dead. Authorities raised the national terrorism alert to red.
A teenager armed with two knives attacked a police officer guarding the entrance to the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade during the night of October 28. Serbia’s acting interior minister, Ivica Dacic, said the assailant shouted “Allahu akbar” during the incident.
Radio Svoboda reported the attack on Wednesday, October 28. According to Dacic, the black-clad teenager opened the door of the officer’s booth, rushed inside and threw one of the knives, wounding the guard in the cheek.
The officer fired in self-defense and killed the attacker. No identification documents were found on the teenager, whose identity remained under investigation. Officials said he was believed to be from Sabac in western Serbia.
Police subsequently elevated Serbia’s terrorism threat level to red, expanded selective searches and reinforced security around critical infrastructure and crowded locations. The embassy was also targeted in June 2024, when an Islamic State supporter wounded a guard in the neck with a crossbow before being shot dead.
