A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Japan overnight into Sunday, leaving more than 20 people injured. Kyodo News cited local authorities for the casualty figure.

Radio Svoboda reported the developments on Sunday, November 8. Officials described the quake as Aichi Prefecture’s strongest in the past 30 years.

Some communities experienced interruptions to their water supply. Footage aired by Japanese television showed shattered storefront windows and pieces of glass scattered across streets.

Japan’s meteorological agency warned that stronger seismic activity could occur over the following week, with particular concern focused on the next two to three days. A magnitude 7.1 quake in July had caused power outages in thousands of homes as well as fires and damage to roads, bridges and buildings.
