Romanian intelligence says it has dismantled a sabotage network allegedly directed by Russian security services. Investigators linked the group to an attempted arson attack involving the Carfil defense facility in Brasov in September 2026.

Radio Svoboda (svoboda.org) reported the case on Tuesday, October 27. The investigation targets two Belarusian nationals and one Ukrainian citizen. Two were detained in Germany and the third in Poland, while Bucharest issued arrest warrants and said it would seek their extradition.

Prosecutors allege that the three suspects had also planned operations against other sites in Romania and elsewhere in the European Union. Authorities said the inquiry identified possible plots targeting international military facilities and locations used to train Ukrainian forces.

The investigation began after a fire at an industrial site close to the Carfil plant, a subsidiary of state-owned Romarm, damaged the premises of several businesses. Russia has repeatedly denied involvement in sabotage activities attributed to Moscow by European governments.
