Poland is preparing rules that could broaden the range of municipalities eligible to introduce a local visitor fee from January 1, 2027. inPoland.net.pl reported on Monday, October 26, that the Finance Ministry was working on the criteria governing applications.

Under the planned changes, favorable climatic conditions would no longer be mandatory. Eligibility could instead depend more heavily on landscape value, suitable accommodation and the presence of attractions that draw visitors beyond traditional seaside, lake and mountain resorts.

The draft points to museums, monuments, open-air museums, theme parks, water parks, nature reserves, botanical gardens and zoos. Sports venues, business and training centers, as well as locations hosting fairs, festivals and religious, cultural or scientific events, could also be taken into account.

Having one qualifying site would not automatically authorize a municipality to charge the fee. Other statutory requirements would still apply, and the final decision on whether to impose it would remain with local authorities.
