Poland detains six in international online fraud investigation
The suspects include Polish, Ukrainian, Moldovan and Georgian nationals. Prosecutors say nearly PLN 2 million was laundered through accounts linked to internet scams.
Polish authorities detained six people in Lodz, Torun, Tczew and Krakow over alleged money laundering and online fraud. The group consisted of two women and four men aged between 19 and 34, and all were charged in the investigation.
inPoland.net.pl reported the case on Friday, October 23. Five suspects were accused of belonging to an international armed criminal organization, while three men were placed in pretrial detention.
Investigators believe recruits responded to online advertisements promising easy income and then handed over bank account details, cards, passwords and PIN codes for a fee. The accounts were allegedly used to move illicit proceeds through Blik transfers, cash withdrawals and cryptocurrency purchases, obscuring the origin of money obtained from internet crimes.
The network allegedly operated across Poland from 2024 to 2026 and laundered almost PLN 2 million. Charges have been brought against 49 people in the wider inquiry, with 19 suspects in custody. Those accused could face prison terms of up to 15 years.
