A Russian diplomat reportedly expelled from Bulgaria amid a major espionage controversy later took up duties in Serbia, according to an investigation. Alexander Krasiy arrived in Belgrade by 2022, while his name appeared on Serbia’s official diplomatic register only in 2026.

Radio Liberty reported the findings on Monday, October 12. Its Balkan Service and the investigative project Systema identified Krasiy in photographs from Serbian military and public events before his formal inclusion on the diplomatic list.

Bulgarian media named Krasiy as the diplomat ordered to leave in 2021, when prosecutors were examining explosions at arms depots and production sites. Investigators suspected Russian nationals of involvement in the incidents, allegations Moscow denied. Bulgarian authorities did not answer questions about Krasiy’s possible role in the case.

The journalists also cited leaked Russian records that they said point to links with military intelligence and possible training at Moscow’s Military Diplomatic Academy. Serbia’s Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy in Belgrade did not respond to requests for comment.
