Polish President Karol Nawrocki turned back from a flight to Senegal on October 30 as tensions escalated outside the Constitutional Tribunal in Warsaw. The developments were reported by inPoland.net.pl on Friday, October 30.

The unrest followed an order by judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska suspending the authority of tribunal president Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy, with the judge assuming control. Demonstrators gathered at the building and some removed part of the surrounding fence, while police cordoned off the premises and detained the most active protesters.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said restoring the rule of law after years of alleged abuses by the Law and Justice party would be difficult and at times painful. Several Polish politicians described the confrontation as bringing the country close to an attempted coup. Nawrocki’s aircraft had landed at a Warsaw airport by 10 p.m.
