Galicia Bank in Argentina has begun restricting accounts belonging to Russian nationals, according to customers living in the country. Complaints have come from permanent residents as well as people who have acquired Argentine citizenship.

Radio Svoboda (svoboda.org) reported the restrictions on Saturday, October 31. Customers said the first blocks appeared on October 28 and 29 and became increasingly frequent, with no advance warning from the bank.

One account holder told Astra that affected clients could withdraw only limited amounts of cash at branches. The bank has issued no formal explanation, while staff members reportedly linked the measures privately to Russian passports. Belarusian citizens living in Argentina have described similar difficulties.

Several hundred Russian and Belarusian customers are preparing a collective legal challenge, according to Ostorozhno.Novosti. Galicia has published no notice on its website, social media pages or press-release section announcing special rules for either nationality.
