Regional officials and Ukraine’s ethnic policy agency held talks over a Roma settlement occupying railway land in the village of Zymna Voda. The Telegram channel @people_of_action reported the discussions on Thursday, October 29.

Around 30 people from roughly 10 families, including children, live at the site. Ukrainian Railways said its location inside the railway right-of-way poses a risk to train traffic and could interfere with critical infrastructure operations.

The meeting examined both public safety and safeguards for the residents. Lviv regional deputy governor Ivan Sobko said the children have access to schools and healthcare and that residents hold identity documents, while continued engagement with the community remains necessary.

Authorities considered two potential courses of action: securing temporary housing for the families or offering another place to live. The issue had previously been reviewed at an April 30 meeting, followed by an ombudsman monitoring visit in June and requests for coordination sent to the railway company, the local council and regional police.
