Wrocław planned evacuation over WWII munition
A safety zone was due to be cleared around Kolejowa Street after a 250-kilogram wartime aerial munition was found at a construction site. Rail and public transport services faced temporary disruption.
Residents and employees near Kolejowa Street in Wrocław were instructed to leave the area by 9:30 a.m. on October 20. The planned evacuation covered roughly 300 metres around a building site where a 250-kilogram aerial munition dating from the Second World War had been discovered.
On Tuesday, October 20, inPoland.net.pl reported the arrangements for the safety operation. An explosive ordnance disposal team was expected to remove the device at about 10:30 a.m.
The city designated the National Forum of Music at Plac Wolności 1 as temporary shelter for people who had nowhere else to stay during the work.
Authorities anticipated major interruptions to municipal transport as well as regional and long-distance trains. The published schedule indicated that disruption could continue until around 11 a.m.; the source did not provide a subsequent account of the operation’s outcome.
