Polish poll finds broad backing for military training for women
Nearly three quarters of respondents favored extending mandatory service or military training to women. Support was stronger for medical and logistics roles than for gender-neutral conscription.
A Polish survey conducted by IBRIS for Wirtualna Polska found that 72.5% of respondents backed mandatory military service or training for women. Some 24.8% opposed the proposal, while 2.7% had no opinion. inPoland.net.pl reported the findings on Monday, October 19.
The results did not translate into equal support for assigning women and men the same duties. Medical or logistics service for women was favored by 50.7% of those questioned, while 21.8% said conscription should make no distinction based on gender.
A separate Opinia24 poll for RMF FM, carried out on October 5–7, showed that restoring compulsory military service overall had narrower backing. The measure was supported by 46%, rejected by 38%, and 16% were unable to give a clear answer.
In that survey, 22% said a renewed draft should cover both women and men. Another 24% favored conscripting men only.
