Poland proposes higher cash requirements for foreign arrivals
Poland’s Interior Ministry has drafted stricter proof-of-funds rules for several groups of foreign visitors. The proposal would sharply raise the minimum amounts required at entry.
Poland’s Ministry of the Interior and Administration is seeking to increase the minimum funds foreigners must have when entering the country. A draft regulation has been posted by the Government Legislation Centre, inPoland.net.pl reported on Friday, October 16.
Under the proposal, a foreign national staying for no more than four days would need at least 1,000 zlotys to cover accommodation and food. The current requirement is 300 zlotys for a stay of up to four days, followed by 75 zlotys for every additional day. Tourists and athletes would be among those covered.
Reduced thresholds would apply to people with prepaid lodging, sanatorium patients and participants in summer work programmes. They would need 130 zlotys per day and no less than 650 zlotys in total, compared with the existing level of 20 zlotys per day and a 100-zloty minimum.
Foreigners arriving for study, internships or research would be required to show 2,020 zlotys for the first two months, up from 1,270 zlotys. The ministry said the revision was intended to reflect basic living costs, noting that the limits had remained unchanged since 2016 despite higher prices.
