Polish teenager charged over AI-made school attack threat
A 17-year-old in Przasnysz allegedly used AI and Snapchat filters to produce a video announcing a knife attack at a secondary school. The charges carry a potential prison term of up to eight years.
Polish prosecutors charged a 17-year-old after a video threatening a knife attack at a secondary school in Przasnysz spread beyond a private messaging group and caused panic. The teenager created the clip on October 8 using artificial intelligence and Snapchat filters, according to investigators.
inPoland.net.pl reported the case on Wednesday, October 14. The recording claimed that an attack would take place on October 9 and identified a student as the intended first victim. Its circulation coincided with online claims about a so-called “Bloody Friday” involving violence at educational institutions.
Police identified members of the private “Owocowy Piąty” group, searched premises, seized digital storage devices and questioned many participants. The district prosecutor’s office in Przasnysz charged the alleged creator on October 9 with issuing a knowingly false threat alert and making a criminal threat.
The teenager remains under preventive police supervision. Under the cited provisions of Poland’s Criminal Code, the alleged offenses may result in penalties including a fine, restriction of liberty or imprisonment, with the maximum potential custodial sentence reaching eight years. Any sentence will be determined by a court.
