German truck mileage index rises 0.8% in September
Distance travelled by toll-liable heavy trucks on German motorways increased from the previous month and remained above its year-earlier level.
Germany's truck toll mileage index advanced by 0.8% in September compared with August after calendar and seasonal adjustment. The measure covers toll-liable vehicles with at least four axles travelling on federal motorways.
Destatis reported the figures on Thursday, October 8. On a calendar-adjusted basis, the index was 2.5% higher than in September 2025, according to data compiled with the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.
Freight traffic is closely associated with industrial activity because production generates demand for transport. The index is available roughly one month before industrial production data, making it an early economic signal, though it cannot show developments in individual industries.
