Nobel Peace Prize winner to be announced October 9
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has registered 287 candidates for the 2026 Peace Prize. Donald Trump is among the publicly disclosed nominees, though the official list remains confidential.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee is preparing to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate on October 9. This year’s field consists of 208 individuals and 79 organizations, but their names will not be formally released under the committee’s confidentiality rules.
Radio Liberty reports on Tuesday, October 6, that several nominators have publicly confirmed US President Donald Trump’s candidacy. His supporters cited Middle East diplomacy, the Abraham Accords and efforts linked to the release of political prisoners in Belarus.
Trump has repeatedly argued that his role in resolving international disputes merits Nobel recognition. His campaign for the honor has also highlighted the committee’s independence from Norway’s government, which has no authority to determine the winner despite appointing its members.
Other names disclosed outside the committee include Yulia Navalnaya, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Maia Sandu, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine, as well as Pope Leo XIV and the International Criminal Court. Prediction markets, however, have placed humanitarian groups such as Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms among the stronger contenders.
