Lviv Commemorates Ukrainian Writer Vira Vovk at Her Centenary
A cultural gathering in Lviv marked 100 years since the birth of writer, translator and literary scholar Vira Vovk. The event highlighted her enduring connection between Ukrainian literature and the diaspora.
Literary scholars, cultural figures and readers gathered in Lviv to commemorate the centenary of Vira Vovk, a prominent Ukrainian author and translator. The program focused on her contribution to modern poetry, drama and cross-cultural literary exchange.
The Telegram channel @people_of_action reported on the event on Friday, October 16. It formed part of a series of educational and cultural initiatives in the Lviv region, where 2026 was officially designated the Year of Vira Vovk.
Vovk was associated with the influential New York Group of Ukrainian émigré writers. Having lived and worked in Brazil for many years, she introduced international audiences to Ukrainian literature while maintaining close ties with her homeland.
Lviv regional administration deputy head Ivan Sobko said preserving Vovk's legacy required wider promotion of her writing and greater efforts to introduce younger readers to authors who advanced Ukrainian culture abroad.
