Ukrainian Railways pilots train-and-bus links near front line
The new arrangement is intended to keep passengers moving in parts of the Sumy and Kharkiv regions when security risks disrupt direct rail services.
Ukrainian Railways has begun testing a combined train-and-bus service on selected routes in front-line regions. Starting October 1, buses will bridge sections where trains cannot safely reach or depart from their scheduled destinations.
The pilot was announced by the Telegram channel @UkrzalInfo on Thursday, October 1. It is being carried out with Ukraine’s restoration, infrastructure and transport ministry and the regional military administrations.
Under the plan, connecting trains and buses will wait for each other if delays occur. Railway monitoring centers will also track security threats and adjust operations when necessary.
Transfer tickets for several upcoming dates are already available through the Ukrainian Railways app. The operator said the arrangement would not affect ticket availability or the total fare paid by passengers.
