Krakow Mayor Lukasz Gibala said on November 8 that he had submitted an urgent request to grant Artur Moranski and Jakub Kulik the title of Honorary Citizen of the Royal Capital City of Krakow. inPoland.net.pl reported the announcement on Sunday, November 8.

According to Malopolska police, the two officers exchanged fire with the attacker about three minutes after emergency calls began coming in from the Main Market Square. They neutralized the gunman, who had opened fire in Krakow’s historic center on November 7.

Both officers suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital. Senior constable Jakub Kulik underwent a complex operation and regained consciousness on the morning of November 8. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the pair as “true heroes.”

A commemoration for the victims is scheduled for 8 a.m. on November 9 at the corner of the Main Market Square and Slawkowska Street. Gibala called on residents to gather there in solidarity and pay tribute to those killed.
