Melania Trump hosts Ukrainian and Russian representatives at White House
The US first lady met officials from Ukraine and Russia to review a humanitarian mission in Oleshky. She urged the parties to build on their cooperation and pursue a broader peace effort.
Melania Trump received representatives of Ukraine and Russia at the White House on November 5 for talks about a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, in Ukraine’s Kherson region. Radio Svoboda reported the meeting on Thursday, November 5.
The Ukrainian participants were parliamentary faction leader Davyd Arakhamia and ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. Russia was represented by presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev and human rights official Yana Lantratova. Trump said she had helped coordinate planning for demining access roads, evacuation routes, medical assistance and the timing of the mission.
The first lady said the effort could provide an opening for a wider peace process based on concern for civilians. Both delegations thanked her and the United States for mediating. Arakhamia presented her with Ukraine’s Order of Princess Olga, First Class, while Dmitriev delivered a drawing made by a girl evacuated from Oleshky to Russia.
Trump also showed the visitors a White House medical kit preserved from the building’s burning by British forces, presenting it as a symbol of how former enemies can become allies. She gave the two intermediaries personal messages addressed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
