Polissya snatch late draw against Bukovyna in torrential rain
A stoppage-time penalty earned Polissya a 2-2 draw in a weather-hit Ukrainian Premier League encounter.
Polissya rescued a point away to Bukovyna after Vladyslav Veleten converted a late penalty to make it 2-2 in their eighth-round Ukrainian Premier League match. The Ukrainian Premier League reported the result on upl.ua on Sunday, October 11.
Maksym Bragaru put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute, with his shot taking a slight deflection that left goalkeeper Herman Penkov wrong-footed. Play was suspended in the 35th minute because of an air-raid alert, causing a delay of almost 90 minutes.
Bukovyna responded after the restart as Vitaliy Dakhnovskyi levelled before half-time. With persistent rain turning into a downpour, Andriy Busko struck in the 56th minute to give the home side a 2-1 advantage.
That lead survived until added time, when Polissya won a penalty and Veleten made no mistake. Bukovyna consequently matched their club record of five unbeaten home league games, while Polissya fell one match short of equalling their longest run without a draw.
