Ukraine’s vehicle tax revenue jumps nearly 59%
Local governments collected UAH 237.5 million in vehicle tax during the first eight months of 2026, with Kyiv accounting for the largest share.
Ukraine’s local budgets received UAH 237.5 million in vehicle tax payments from January through August 2026, an increase of 58.7% from UAH 149.6 million a year earlier. The State Tax Service reported the figures on Tuesday, September 29.
Kyiv led collections with UAH 68.1 million. Dnipropetrovsk region followed with UAH 21.3 million, while Odesa and Kyiv regions generated UAH 17.9 million and UAH 17.5 million, respectively.
The annual levy applies to passenger cars no more than five years old whose average market value exceeds UAH 3.2 million in 2026. Owners must pay a fixed UAH 25,000 for each qualifying vehicle.
Liability rests with the person in whose name the car is registered, rather than a tenant or someone driving it under a power of attorney. The tax forms part of the property tax system and is retained entirely by local authorities for community programs and infrastructure projects.
