Ukraine opens revamped government innovation award
The 2026 competition will prioritize technologies already deployed in the economy. Up to two teams in each of four categories may receive UAH 300,000 awards.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science has launched the selection process for the Cabinet of Ministers Award for the development and implementation of innovative technologies. The redesigned program focuses on research that has moved beyond patents and reports to practical use, production or commercialization.
Entries will be accepted in four categories covering science-intensive innovation, solutions for economic activity, innovation infrastructure, and security and defense research. No more than two prizes may be granted in each category, with a cash award of UAH 300,000 going to the winning author team.
Eligible applicants vary by category and include universities, research institutions, businesses, innovation actors and technology-transfer organizations. Nominated teams must consist of three to ten people. Most projects must have been in use for at least one year, while infrastructure initiatives require a minimum three-year implementation record.
Online submissions through Ukraine’s national electronic research information system are due to open after September 28, 2026. The deadline is October 19 at 1 p.m. Kyiv time. Applications will undergo scientific review, expert scoring and presentations before the award committee makes its final decision.
