Ukrainians freed from Russian captivity in the October 23 exchange are traveling home aboard a Ukrainian Railways service. The Telegram channel @UkrzalInfo reported this on Saturday, October 24.

Four railway workers are on the train, while six company employees in total returned in the exchange. The four passengers were captured in Mariupol and remained in captivity for more than four years.

They include Andrii Chub, a crane operator who worked at a locomotive depot for 25 years, and Zaporizhzhia native Maksym Piddubnyi, who trained as a conductor and qualified as a locomotive engineer. Both come from families closely connected to the railway.

Another freed employee, Serhii Sliusar, is heading toward his five children and depot colleagues in Mykolaiv. Ukrainian Railways said the first words its conductors heard from the passengers were: “Home. Thank you for this route.”
