Finland has agreed to supply Ukrainian Railways with 10 used Dv12 diesel locomotives and related components free of charge. It is the first country to donate locomotives directly to the Ukrainian operator under the international rail support effort.

The Telegram channel @UkrzalInfo reported the agreement on Friday, October 23. It was signed by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi in the presence of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The arrangement follows talks launched at the Carpathian Eight summit, where Ukraine began forming a coalition of partners willing to provide second-hand locomotives. Agreements with several countries were reached during that initiative.

Ukrainian Railways says nearly 600 locomotives have been damaged or destroyed since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, including more than 300 diesel units. Diesel traction is also needed to keep services stable when attacks on energy infrastructure disrupt electricity supplies.
