Ukrainian Rail Veterans Honored After Returning to Work
Rail workers who resumed their civilian jobs after military service were recognized at a meeting marking Ukraine’s Defenders Day.
A gathering brought together Ukrainian railway employees whose military paths took them through areas including Soledar, Kupiansk, Avdiivka, Chasiv Yar and the Kherson region. The Telegram channel @UkrzalInfo reported the event on Thursday, October 1.
The veterans received commendations and shared accounts of combat, recovery and fallen comrades. Oleksandr returned to work after suffering severe leg injuries near Kupiansk and undergoing almost nine months of rehabilitation.
Track worker Yevhenii served alongside his brother, also a railway employee, who was killed near Bakhmut. Viacheslav joined the military in 2019 and served first as a mortar operator and later as a grenade launcher operator, while former electromechanic Volodymyr resumed his railway duties after service.
Some 16,000 Ukrzaliznytsia employees have entered the armed forces since the start of the full-scale invasion. Of that number, 1,448 have so far returned to their workplaces.
